Michael Gallagher aiming for the international award in public speaking

COFFS Harbour’s Michael Gallagher hopes to take his talent for public speaking to the world.

The local Toastmaster will travel to Sydney for the District 70 Final to decide who will represent NSW at the world championship of public speaking in the United States.

Mr Gallagher recently won the Toastmasters International Speech Contest held in Coffs Harbour.

He then travelled to Port Macquarie to compete in the Northern Division Contest, drawing competitors from all over northern NSW.

In a great display of public speaking, Mr Gallagher spoke about ‘leadership’, combining good humour and a potent message to impress the judges.

“Toastmasters has been a great experience for me,” Mr Gallagher said.

“I initially joined, as most do, to overcome my fear of public speaking, but the whole leadership and communication program has changed my life.”

Michael will now compete against seven other finalists for the right to represent the State in Las Vegas at the world championships in August.

“I have been able to change to a more rewarding career and the chance to go to Las Vegas is just the icing on the cake,” he said.

“Toastmasters is a must for anyone wanting more out of life.”

Coffs Harbour Toastmasters meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at The Cavanbah Centre at 7pm.
